Playstation 3's great benefits bring concerns as well.
Socially, one must wonder what the effects of communicating online, gaming for hours, and not needing to leave your home for the latest products can have on people. It's no lie to say that most of America is overweight. Obesity can come from many things, but one of which is lack of exercise. Besides the obvious health detriments, obesity can lead to social impairment and low self-esteem.
Security is a major concern for everyone. Unfortunately, Sony suffered a security breach of their online network. The leak of information compromised 100 million accounts. The cyber attack was the result of an ongoing feud between Sony and hackers, that ultimately was not worth the price they paid (Riley & Vance, 2011, para. 2). Sony sought legal action against a hacker which led to a massive group of collective hackers gaining access to Playstation user information including login information and possibly credit card numbers.
With the breach of security comes Ethical concerns. What are Sony's obligations to their consumers? To answer this, Sony issued a letter to the House of Representatives detailing their handling of the security situation. They offered consumers free identity monitoring for one year and also promotional items as a part of a "Welcome Back" program offered through their network once it was back online (Seybold, 2011, para. 4&5). The main issue is that they did not guard their network as well as they should have in the first place and the real obligation should be to safeguard their customers information.
